Advice on traveling with children under the age of 4?
I have a 4 month old and a recently turned 3 year old. My husband is currently working in Spain for another 3 weeks and he really wants us to go visit him as he misses us so much. We've now bought our tickets for a long weekend in Madrid to see him.
I thought it would be easy to travel with 2 kids. One in the stroller, and one strapped to me. But the more I think about it, the more I'm wondering how feasible that's going to be, without killing my back! My son is quite hyper and has the tendency to run off - something I do NOT want to happen at a busy airport with a baby to cater to as well. If I can strap him into a stroller, that's the safest form of traveling... but as I mentioned, I'm not sure I can manage with my back.
I have 3 different kinds of baby carriers - a wrap, the ergo and the baby bjorn - each has been useful at different stages, but all uncomfortable for long periods.
I never bothered buying a double buggy because of the age gap and my son is pretty much walking most places. However, I can't see him doing so when sight-seeing around Madrid! I'm sure he'll get tired and will need to nap, etc. And as I said, I can't have the baby carried the entire time as that would just kill my back.
I was looking at buying a double buggy but still can't justify the price for something I will use for a short while.
I've looked at the buggypod but it has quite a few negative reviews - namely that it's hard to push amongst other inconveniences.
I've looked at the buggy board, but a) apparently there's not enough room between the stroller and you pushing (I'm quite small as it is and tend to stand quite close to the stroller let alone having a toddler in the way) and b) doesn't solve the 'napping' issue if he gets super tired.
Are there any moms out there who've used any of the above who can give me the pros and cons?
PS We're taking a trip to Germany in August too to attend my cousin's wedding... then heading to Australia to visit the in-laws for Christmas... but he'll be 3 & 1/2 by then! Is it worth spending the money?
Thanks so much for your advice.
